SIMARCO FOOTBALL SPONSORSHIP STRENGTHENS PRESENCE ON HOME GROUND

Simarco has reinforced its presence on home ground in Essex by agreeing a sponsorship deal with its local football team.

The initial two-year deal will see Simarco Worldwide’s logo feature on the shirts of Witham Town from the start of the new season next month.

It means that the club’s Spa Road ground – which is less than two miles from Simarco’s Head Office – will be renamed the Simarco Stadium.

It is the latest milestone for Simarco, which announced the opening of a new £10 million distribution centre in Stoke earlier this month.

 In February, the company also revealed that it had secured a 10-year extension of the lease on its Witham headquarters.

Simarco Managing Director Trevor Scott explained that the sponsorship represented a “natural” partnership between two organisations with strong community roots.

“As a regular spectator at Spa Road, I’ve been impressed with the ethos of the football club and with the desire of its chairman and committee to take it forward.

“The club’s ambition – both at senior and junior level – has parallels in our own desire to progress. Our respective ties to the local community mean that we have a shared, very positive commitment to the area where we live, work and play.

“There are some exciting times ahead and I’m pleased Simarco will be part of that journey.”

Mr Scott described how, as a result of the sponsorship deal, Simarco’s name will adorn the home, away and training kit of Witham Town, which plays in the BetVictor Isthmian League division north – the eighth tier of English league football.

The firm’s recent decision to open a 108,000-square foot depot in Stoke to operate European logistics and distribution centre for the north of England, Manchester and the Midlands will take its total number of employees to more than 350.

Two hundred of those are employed at three sites across Witham. Simarco also operates two existing sites in Staffordshire – at Chemical Lane in Stoke and at Barton-under-Needwood.

Witham Town Chairman Mark Nicholls said that the new sponsorship had arguably strengthened the club’s local roots.

“We’re delighted that we’ve established a very exciting partnership with a local company which shares our desire to be at the heart of the local community.

“In particular, Simarco’s commitment to help us deliver a ‘one club’ approach, giving an opportunity for local children to have access to football.”
